May Events

We’ve got a lot of new events on our schedule, and plenty of volunteer opportunities to help out in the community. At this week’s Open Studio Night, Monday 6 to 8 pm, we’re having a maker show and tell. Come see the awesome projects that people have been doing and all the creating that’s been happening. Show off something you’ve recently completed, or get feedback on something that’s still a work in progress.
Here’s a look ahead at the calendar.
Sunday, April 30th, 1 to 4 pm- Spring Cleaning. We’ll be getting out that layer of sawdust that built up over the winter, and we need your help to do it. Come by to lend a hand and grab a doughnut.
Monday, May 1st, 6 to 8 pm- Open Studio Night. We’ll have a fun project for you to try your hand at making.
Saturday, May 6th, 11 am to 4 pm- We’ll have a table at the Juneau Maritime Festival downtown at Marine Park. We’ll be helping kids build mini rubber band powered paddle boats and we need volunteers to help. Get in touch with us if you are interested.
Monday, May 8th, 6 to 8 pm- Open Studio Night. Mother’s Day Card Making. It’s way more personal and heartfelt than a store bought one.
Saturday, May 13th, 1 to 4 pm- We’ll be working on making the Makerspace and doing ceramic glazing, among other projects. There’s a few projects hanging around the Makerspace that need doing, and this is the time to do it. The space will be open and people will be working on things.
Monday, May 15th, 6 to 8 pm- Open Studio Night. 3D Printing Workshop. Come learn how to 3D print anything.
Tuesday, May 16th, 7 to 8:30 pm- Monthly board meeting. If you are interested in helping run and organize the Makerspace, consider attending.
Saturday, May 20th, 11 am to 4 pm- We’ll have a table at Community Day on Campus at UAS. We’ll have another fun booth activity for kids. Get in touch with us if you want to volunteer.
Monday, May 22, 6 to 8 pm- Open Studio Night. Acrylic Painting Class. Come learn basic techniques for acrylic painting.
Monday, May 29, 6 to 8 pm- Open Studio Night. Seashells and Dremels. Come learn how to make jewelry from the seashells you can collect right here in Juneau.
Volunteer for one of our events to help out in the community. We are also looking into more long term opportunities for promoting STEAM in Juneau, and if you would like to help with that, such as assisting with a youth program, please let us know. The Makerspace will be closed the evening of April 27th for a private event. If you have not been by the Makerspace in a while, come by any of the open events to see some of the new equipment we’ve got, including our kick wheel for pottery.
