There’s a lot happening at the Makerspace. We’ve got awesome events coming up and cool new tools, so come on by our Monday Open Studio Night at 6:00 pm. This week we’re having a class on making artists trading cards.
We have a new event on Friday nights as well. A couple of Juneau Amateur Radio Club members are building a radio transceiver and anyone interested is welcome to join them on this project or work on your own radio. They’re meeting on Friday nights at 7 pm through November.
We now have a laser cutter. We’ve gotten a 40 watt CO2 laser that still may need a bit of calibration, but it does laser things. It’s great for both cutting and engraving on a wide variety of materials. We will be teaching members how to use it on an individual basis for now.
On October 15th we will have our second annual garage sale for the Makerspace. We have a lot of gorilla shelf parts and more ceramic molds that we are offering up before we need to take them to the dump. That will be on a Saturday at 9 am.
We will have a kiln firing for ceramic glazing on October 12th. If you want to color any of the ceramic tiles we’ve made for our founders wall, you must come in before then to do so. If you want to help with the project or have your own pieces glazed, come on by, we have everything you’ll need.
We are going to be building a Little Free Library. A generous volunteer has drawn up a set of plans, and we’ve got all the material lying around the Makerspace to build it. The Little Free Library will be a book stand going outside the JACC, so if you want to have your handiwork proudly displayed in Juneau, come help us build it.
Upcoming events include:
October 3rd: Costume Making
October 10th: Seminar on using Worbla (thermoplastics costume molding)
October 12th: Glaze Kiln Firing
October 15: Garage Sale
October 17th: Workshop on Steampunk Props and Weapons
October 24th: Pumpkin carving, Maker Style
November 7th: Rubber Stamping Class
Open Studio Nights start at 6 pm every Monday, with events starting at 6:30.
Catch us on KTOO’s Juneau Afternoon this Monday at 3:30.
