January Newsletter

January Monday Open Studio Nights will be tech themed. We’re kicking off the new year with a 3D printing demo on January 7th. Come learn how to use our 3D printer, and what amazing things you can make with it.

January 14th and 21st will both be dedicated to building a Maslow CNC router. This will be the second Computer Numeric Controlled router at the Makerspace, and this one will be able to carve any shape out of a 4’x8′ sheet of plywood. You do not need to come to both events to help with the project, but the more help we have the sooner we can start routing with it.

January 28th we will have a workshop on making LED throwies. These are great little lights that will attach to any magnetic surface. This is a great basic intro to electronics demo.

Open Studio Nights are every Monday from 6 to 8 pm, with demos or events starting around 6:30.

We are partnering with JAHC to bring a new event to Juneau. Every third Thursday of the month we will co-host a sewing club at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center. Every month will we will teach a new skill, no experience needed, and assistance will be provided. Sewing machines and fabric will also be provided. January 17th we will show you how to sew adventure mats, perfect for outdoor picnic blankets. JAHC & JMS Sewing Club will be from 6 to 8 pm at the JACC. $10 suggested donation.

We are in the early stages of looking for a shipping container we can set up outside the Makerspace to be a metal shop. If you can help us with this project, please let us know.
