January 2025 Newsletter: It’s been an incredible year for Juneau Makerspace

s we close out another year of making stuff at Juneau Makerspace, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the amazing things that happened this year, as well as highlight just a taste of things to come in the new year. We got awesome new tools and equipment. Our members have made incredible pieces of art and other projects. We’ve hosted theatrical performances, in-depth classes, hobbyist meetups, and community meetings. A scouting troop now meets regularly at the Makerspace. Even the mayor stopped by for a brief visit.

Things We’re Looking Forward To:

We’ve got new tools, new events, and new capabilities happening in the coming year. We’ve got a new CNC router, more on that below. We’re always getting new tools and materials that we make available to our members, so stop by the Makerspace to see what’s new.

We’ll be hosting lots of new events for the community to get involved in. Want to learn social dance or have a family craft night? Get in touch with us as we get these events organized for 2025. If you are interested in an introductory sewing class, we will have a few available spots for that as well, the number of students per class is limited. Keep an eye on our social media for up-to-date information on events. As always, we’ve got our Monday Open Studio Nights from 6 to 8 pm. Come by then if you want to check out the space, or work on a project with other makers.

Finally, we’re switching to a new membership management software that will make it easier to join and manage your membership. Go to our website: Juneaumakerspace.org to create your account and purchase a membership. More on that below too.

New Membership Software

We’re excited to introduce our new membership software that puts our signup process online. Now you can digitally sign up for a membership and fill out the necessary paperwork. You will still need to come to the Makerspace for your orientation to complete the membership process. If you are a returning member that went through an orientation before 2025 you don’t need to do another one in person, but you will need to let us know that you’ve signed up again so we can check you off.

New CNC Router

We’ve got a new CNC router we will be installing in the woodshop. Stay tuned for future updates on that and classes on how to operate it. We’re excited to bring this tool to our community of makers, and can’t wait to see what amazing things you use it for. We’re just starting the process of setting it up, including making more space in the woodshop for it.

Makerspace Wishlist

We’re always looking for ways to serve the community, and right now we’ve got a few items on our wishlist that would help us out. If you’ve got tools or material in good condition you want to donate, let us know. All donations are subject to board approval. Currently, we’re looking for sewing machines, lumber and plywood, podcasting mics, and a tablet computer.

Thank you again for helping make this a great year for the Makerspace. We look forward to seeing what you’ll make in 2025!
